Drug Awareness Council Offering New Bursary

The Chatham-Kent Drug Awareness Council is honouring the memory one of its long-time members by helping students in their post-secondary journey.

The CK Drug Awareness Council is launching the Thomas R Maxwell III student bursary, supporting one student who is looking to work in the field of substance use and recovery, or a related human and justice-related service.

Maxwell passed away July 3, 2023, after dedicating his time to harm reduction work in the community, including leading various initiatives including CK Aids Support, the CK Harm Reduction Program, and a needle exchange program.

Students who are registered in a full-time program in the fall of 2024 or spring 2025 are eligible for the $1000 busary, or $500 for part-time studies. Recipients are welcome to re-apply each year until their program is complete, as long as they maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Applications can be submitted to the Chatham-Kent Drug Awareness Council ([email protected]) until September 1, 2024.
