Local health officials are once again warning the public about an increase in drug overdoses within Chatham-Kent.
Chatham-Kent Public Health issued the alert on Friday due to a rising number of drug poisonings and unexpected reactions to substances in the municipality. This has led to 13 opioid-related EMS calls since February 23.
Health officials issued a similar warning back in late January. However, no recent overdose statistics have been released.
According to the health unit, there have been reports of strong tranquillizers being spliced into the local drug supply, resulting in heavy sedation.
Anyone who witnesses an opioid overdose is urged to call 911, administer naloxone, and stay with the person until paramedics arrive.
