A search for stolen vehicles in Bothwell ended with drug trafficking charges for a Moraviantown man.
Chatham-Kent Police were conducting a proactive investigation in the Bothwell area shortly after midnight on Tuesday and noticed a pickup approaching them on Selton Line. Officers marked down the license plate and made a U-turn to pull the driver over, but the truck sped off.
Police later came across the truck again and a second attempt at getting the driver to stop was successful.
Officers learned the 36-year-old man behind the wheel was already suspended from driving. A search of the truck turned up a .223 rifle, a loaded .32 caliber handgun, a significant amount of methamphetamine, materials used for drug packaging, and over $1000 in cash.
The accused was arrested and charged with numerous charges, including two counts each of careless use and unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, among other offences.
The accused was remanded into custody following a bail hearing and transported to the Southwest Regional Detention Centre.
