A Chatham man spent the night behind bars after a drunken encounter with police.
The 61-year-old called police last night, complaining about his living arrangements.
Officers found him in a Fourth St. stairwell, as he continued to yell and act in a belligerent manner.
The man was arrested for being intoxicated in public and taken into custody for his own safety.
