Ongoing road work in Wallaceburg will likely cause additional traffic headaches for drivers this month with the closure of a major intersection.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has announced that the rehabilitation project on Dufferin Avenue will extend to the intersection of McNaughton Avenue and Dufferin Avenue, which is now set to close on September 5 at 7 a.m.

The intersection will remain closed to traffic until September 15 at 7 p.m. to allow for the replacement of the existing watermain and traffic signals.

Access to all properties and businesses on Dufferin Avenue will be maintained at all times, the municipality said.

A detour will be in place for Highway 40 traffic, which will include the use of Base Line, Old Glass Road, Mason Street and Arnold Street.

The Dufferin Avenue project began earlier this summer and includes the rehabilitation of 1.9 km of the road from the McNaughton Avenue intersection to 90 metres west of Walnut Drive. Work is expected to be completed in 2023, with restoration to be completed in Spring 2024.
