Nominations are now open for a new award recognizing a dedicated educator who has created meaningful change for Black students and communities.
As part of the upcoming Chatham-Kent Black Excellence Awards, the Lambton Kent District School Board is sponsoring the new Black Excellence in Education award category.
Nominees for the award must demonstrate a profound commitment to cultural awareness, the dismantling of systemic inequities, and the promotion of social justice within the educational system.
“It will be presented to someone who consistently goes above and beyond in their efforts—whether through innovative teaching, community engagement, mentorship programs, or advocacy for underrepresented voices in education,” the board said in a news release. “Their contributions inspire future generations and play a vital role in building a more equitable and inclusive educational landscape for all.”
Nominations are open to all self-identifying Black staff members, both current and retired, within the Lambton Kent District School Board who have connections to Chatham-Kent. The nomination period will close on February 1 and the recipient will be honoured at the Chatham-Kent Black Excellence Awards held at the Retro Suites in Chatham on March 1.
