Fire fighters will be back at the scene of an apartment fire in Chatham today, talking to local residents about fire safety and the importance of working smoke alarms.
Crews were called to the Baldoon Road building around 5:30 yesterday afternoon.
Fire fighters worked quickly to douse the flames on a rear balcony and prevent the fire from spreading, and were cleared from the scene within 90 minutes.
The blaze is said to have been an accident, and officials are reminding all residents to never leave burring cigarettes unattended.
Damage is pegged at $20,000.
