While contract negotiations for public elementary teachers remain ongoing, 3,500 education workers with the same union have voted to accept a new four-year contract.
Designated early childhood educators, education support personnel, and professional support personnel represented by the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) voted 80 per cent in favour of accepting the 2022-2026 Education Worker Central Agreement that was recently reached with the Council of Trustees’ Associations and the Ontario government.
The term of the contract is from September 1, 2022, to August 31, 2026.
The union said the new contract addresses many key bargaining goals, including salary increases, maintaining funding for current benefit levels, paid professional learning, and job security.
ETFO also represents 80,000 teachers and occasional teachers at Ontario’s public elementary schools. Unionized members voted 95 per cent in favour of a strike mandate last week as contract talks with the provincial government continue.
