Campaigning across the municipality has come to an end as residents head to the polls for Election Day in Chatham-Kent.

Eligible voters will be able to cast their ballots today between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. at their designated polling location. Those who are unsure where to cast their ballot can find their polling station by clicking here.

There are three candidates vying for the mayor’s seat, including incumbent Darrin Canniff who is campaigning for his second term.

A total of sixteen candidates are chasing the six council seats in Ward 6, while another eight are in contention for the two seats in Ward 4.

The two Ward 5 seats for Wallaceburg were uncontested with only incumbent councillors Aaron Hall and Carmen McGregor in the running.

In all, there are 40 candidates looking to fill the 17 seats in council chambers at the Civic Centre.

So far, just under 13 per cent of Chatham-Kent’s 80,312 registered voters have already cast their ballots through online voting between October 3-16 or at advance polls between October 13-15.

During the previous municipal election in 2018, only 45.44 per cent of eligible voters cast their ballots.
