Elections Canada’s Chief Electoral Officer Stephane Perrault is updating Canadians on the ways they will be able to vote on election day September 20th.
That includes in-person at your assigned polling station, in advance at designated advance polls, by mail, and at any Elections Canada office.
Canadians will be able to apply online to cast their vote by mail. Until now, Canadians living outside Canada who wished to vote were required to apply directly to their Elections Canada office.
If there are a considerable amount of mail-in ballots returned then results from the September 20th election may take a few days to calculate says Mr. Perrault.
Other health and safety measures for voting in person include:
- Masks will be required in province’s where required in their location. If they aren’t they will be encouraged to wear one.
- Single use pencils will be used to mark ballots. You are able to bring your own if you wish
- Sanitizing stations will be available at entrances and exits of voting stations.
- Only 1 poll worker will be sitting at each desk and they will be behind a barrier. Poll workers will be provided with masks and face shields
- All common work surfaces will be sanitized throughout the day
