Electronic Applications Now Accepted for Operation Backpacks

Time is running out to get involved in Operation Backpack, providing school supplies to local families in need.

Good Neighbours Coordinator Mary Symons says the program is now paperless, meaning the application process is done through the United Way’s website.

“That’s where you’ll find a hyperlink to make their request for their backpack for their children. As well they’ll find various files, one including what their child will receive as far as supplies, according to grade,” Symons says. “If they’ve elected to pick up their backpack at the child’s school, there are corresponding files that will indicate [the school], and it will say you can go at this date at this time. So there’s a lot of information on the website”, says Symons.

The deadline for applications is August 17th.

Anyone who may not have access to a computer can simply call the United Way office and register over the phone.

“We do recognize that there are parents who do not have that opportunity – finances, internet, and what not. If they’re not able to go to the library or use a friend’s internet, by all means, they are able to call in at the office at 519-354-0430 and I will take their information,” says Symons.
