No injuries have been reported after fire broke out in the basement of an Elgin Street home.

Crews were called to the home just before 11 yesterday morning with the bulk of the damage contained to the lower level.

Officials say the lone occupant heard a popping noise just before the smoke alarm went off. She closed the door to the basement on her way out of the building, which officials say significantly reduced smoke damage.

While the blaze has been listed as accidental, the cause remains under investigation.
