Josiah Henson Museum of African-Canadian History in Dresden.

One of Chatham-Kent’s most important historical sites is hosting a day of celebration this weekend to commemorate the end of slavery in Canada.

The Josiah Henson Museum of African-Canadian History will host its annual Emancipation Day celebration on Saturday, featuring several activities that will explore Ontario’s Black history and reinforce the importance of freedom, justice and the ongoing fight against racial inequality.

The event will also include multiple speakers and performers throughout the day, including historians, chefs, storytellers, poets and musicians.

The free event runs from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the historical site at 29251 Freedom Road in Dresden. Lunches will be available for purchase.
