The much talked about merger between Union Gas and Enbridge is now official.

A ribbon cutting was held Friday afternoon outside the corporate office on Keil Drive in Chatham.

Cynthia Hansen is the executive vice president, and president of gas distribution and storage and says Chatham-Kent remains a major part of their operations and they aren’t going anywhere.

“I think what we have said and what we are committed to is maintaining a substantial presence in the community here, and we still have 840 jobs and we have three vice-presidents that are based out of this location,” Hansen says. “Chatham-Kent and the surrounding areas are very, very important to us. We have our significant storage hub at Dawn, that’s not going anywhere and we’re not going anywhere.”

They are currently working on a 19 million dollar pipeline that will connect natural gas to several communities.
