Chatham-Kent’s Fire and Emergency Service is teaming up with Enbridge to help keep local residents safe.
Enbridge is donating 5-thousand dollars towards the CHIRP program – CHIRP stands for Chatham-Kent Homes: Informed, Ready and Protected.
The program aims to educate local residents about the importance of having smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in their homes, and other emergency preparedness information.
According to Whitney Burke, CKFS Public Educator, says the cash goes a long way.
“The purchase of smoke alarms and batteries wouldn’t be possible without Enbridge, we were able to purchase over 500 batteries and over 700 smoke alarms,” reveals Burke. “So if we go into a home, we won’t leave until it’s compliant with the fire code.”
The CHIRP program runs from June through October – last year fire fighters visited almost 45-hundred homes in the community, and hopes to double that this year.
