While not ruling out potential changes at its Chatham office, the head of Enbridge Gas has offered assurances that the natural gas company will maintain a presence in the municipality.
Enbridge confirmed last week that it has been conducting a review of its real estate strategy and has considered closing its office on Keil Drive North.
In response, Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff said he spoke to Enbridge President and CEO Greg Ebel, who said the company “will always have a significant presence in Chatham-Kent.”
“Enbridge has been and will continue to be a strong partner and employer right here in Chatham-Kent,” Canniff said in an emailed statement. “There may be changes, but he assured me they will always be present in our community in a significant way, which is great news.”
Enbridge said last week that it had begun early conversations with local stakeholders about the potential office closure, but added that no final decisions have been made.
Enbridge Gas Inc. was formed in 2019 following the merger of Union Gas and Enbridge Gas Distribution.
