End of Summer Party Gets Out of Hand

Multiple charges have been laid in connection to an end of summer party just west of Chatham.

Chatham-Kent Police responded to a property on Dillon Road just before 2 o’clock Saturday morning. Authorities say two masked individuals, who were not known to the party hosts, allegedly pulled knives on several other party-goers, and a black handgun was seen falling out of the clothing of one of the accused.

The pair fled the scene after being confronted by the property owner, but returned just before 2:30 while police were interviewing witnesses. Officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop and both occupants were arrested.

A search of the vehicle turned up a bag with individually packaged controlled substances, scales, and packaging materials.

Two 17-year-olds from Chatham are now facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and were released from custody with conditions and an October court date.

Meantime, police were also called to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance emergency department for a report of an assault that took place at the same party.

Investigators say the victim was seeking treatment for several broken bones and misaligned teeth after being attacked from behind in the driveway of the Dillon Road property.

Witnesses helped to identify the accused and a 16-year-old from Blenheim was arrested for assault causing bodily harm. He was read his Rights to Counsel and Caution in the presence of a parent, and released with conditions and a future court date.

Chatham-Kent Police say the investigations into these incidents and others stemming from the gathering remain on-going. Anyone with information is asked to contact CKPS at 519-352-1234.
