A changing of the guard at the St Clair Catholic District School Board.

After a 35-year career in education, Laura Callaghan has announced her retirement as Superintendent of Education.

Callaghan began her teaching career with the former Kent County Roman Catholic Separate School Board in Tilbury in 1988. Over the years, she has held several positions, including teaching French and the Arts, serving as principal at a number of schools in the district, and appointed Superintendent in 2015.

Callaghan’s retirement takes effect November 1st, and she will be replaced by Michelle Sawa, who comes to the St Clair Catholic District School Board from Wellington County, where she served as a key member of the Executive Council.

As an educational leader with extensive experience in northwestern Ontario, she has an authentic and deep understanding and respect for Indigenous histories, cultures, and perspectives.

Sawa’s first day with the board will be November 13th.
