English Catholic Teachers Hit The Picket Lines

Area English Catholic schools will be shut down today as members of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association stage a one-day strike.

That includes Holy Family and Christ the King in Wallaceburg, and Ursuline College in Chatham.

Meantime, public high school teachers are holding another rotating one-day strike today as well, although the Lambton Kent District School board isn’t affected.

And one-day strikes continue in public elementary schools, again not including the Lambton Kent board.

The unions say that class sizes and cuts to services continue to be the main issues in an ongoing dispute with the province, although Education Minister Stephen Lecce insists the teachers only care about wages.

The union representing French teachers, that began a work-to-rule campaign last week, is the only one to have contract talks with the government planned.
