Chatham-Kent’s energy provider is rectifying a billing system error, which led to some minor overcharges for Ontario customers.

Entegrus Powerlines Inc. has submitted an Assurance of Voluntary Compliance to the Ontario Energy Board after discovering the ongoing billing issue in July. The electricity distributor implemented system changes to correct this issue on August 24.

The overcharges were equivalent to 35 cents per residential customer over four years.

To compensate for the error, Entegrus will contribute $16,658.58 to the Low-income Energy Assistance Program to help customers in need in its service area. The company will also pay a $10,000 penalty.

Entegrus serves around 62,500 customers in 17 communities in Southwestern Ontario.
