Canada’s federal Conservatives have a new leader – finally.
After a lengthy delay, Erin O’Toole was named as Andrew Scheer’s replacement early this morning.
The Ontario MP defeated Peter MacKay with 57% party support on the third ballot.
The 47-year-old says his party will welcome all Canadians, regardless of race, religion, economic standing, education or sexual orientation.
The big reveal was supposed to start around 6 last night, but was delayed because the envelope-opening machine being used sliced through several thousand ballots.
O’Toole has his work cut out for him, including a confidence vote in the House of Commons next month and uniting the party after a sometimes testy leadership race.
