A RIDE checkpoint near Chatham has landed an Essex driver with charges.

Elgin County OPP were keeping tabs on motorists on the eastbound 401 near the Bloomfield Road offramp on Monday night and shortly before 11:30, officers pulled over a passenger vehicle and gave the driver a sobriety test.

The 56-year-old has since been issued a seven-day license suspension.

Provincial Police remind all residents that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume before driving.
