Local residents may notice some unusual activity around a seniors’ residence in Chatham.
Staff at the municipally-owned Riverview Gardens Long Term Care Facility will be holding a mock emergency evacuation, or Code Green, from roughly 8:30 until 11 Wednesday morning.
Officials say the training scenario will be conducted using volunteers and staff to act in place of residents to ensure there is no risk to residents.
The mock evacuation is part of the province’s Fixing Long Term Care Act that calls for a planned evacuation at least once every three years to ensure long term care homes are better prepared during emergencies.
There will be some minor traffic disruptions as well, with Robertson Avenue closed between King Street West and Tecumseh Road for the duration of the exercise.
