In celebration of International Women’s Day, a local event has raised hundreds of dollars to help women and children escape violence and rebuild their lives.

The “I Am Woman” event was held on March 8-9 in Chatham and raised a total of $2,232.25 for the Chatham-Kent Women’s Centre.

“We are thrilled by the overwhelming support and generosity displayed by the community during the I Am Woman events,” said Lisa Lester, one of the event organizers, in a news release. “The funds raised will make a meaningful impact on the Chatham Women’s Centre’s ability to continue their vital work in fostering empowerment and providing resources for women in need in our community.”

The Zonta Club of Chatham-Kent and SheLeads, an organization committed to uplifting and advancing all women in CK, co-organized the two-day event, which included a women’s march through Chatham on the Friday.

The event then continued at the Chatham Armoury and included several activities, including interactive booths, food, music, a dance tutorial, and a lip sync battle. A women-owned and operated vendor expo also took place on the Saturday at the Armoury.
