Thanks to a generous commitment from a local bakery, more than 100 feline friends have found new homes in Chatham-Kent.

The owners of the Bent Tin bakery in Thamesville, Misty and Michael Bass, have donated $13,860 to Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR,) after committing to cover the adoption fees for cats and kittens being housed at the shelter during the month of August.

“We believe that every animal deserves a loving home, and we are thrilled to have played a part in helping these cats and kittens find their forever families,” said Misty in a news release.

According to PAW officials, 126 cats and kittens were adopted last month, providing the animals with new homes and lightening the burden on the shelter.

“We are profoundly humbled by the extraordinary generosity and kindness shown by Misty and Michael,” said PAW Rescue Director Myriam Armstrong. “Their commitment to the welfare of animals is truly remarkable. This partnership not only resulted in many adoptions but also raised awareness about the importance of adopting shelter animals. We are immensely grateful for their support.”

PAW Rescue is also inviting other businesses to take part in sponsorship initiatives that help more local animals find homes. Those interested are asked to contact the shelter for more information.
