The province is expanding eligibility for fourth doses of COVID vaccine.
Starting at 8am on April 7th, booster shots will be available for anyone 60 and older, as well as First Nation, Inuit, and Metis individuals and any non-Indigenous household members over the age of 18.
Chatham-Kent Medical Officer Dr. David Colby has cautioned against thinking of the fourth dose as a second booster.
“We were highly invested at the beginning of the pandemic that two shots was enough, and that with two shots you were fully vaccinated,” Colby explained.
“The rules changed with Omicron. You’re not fully vaccinated with two, you’re fully vaccinated with three, and that immunity is not permanent and it will likely have to be re-administered, or boosted if you will, at different times.”
Health officials say expanded booster eligibility provides an extra layer of protection against the Omicron and Stealth variants.
Officials at Chatham-Kent Public Health say due to the expected increased demand, the number of clinic days being offered will increase. Starting Monday, April 11th the 730 Richmond Street (former YA building) clinic site will now run:
Monday: 9AM-4PM
Wednesday: 1:30PM-7:30PM
Friday: 9AM-4PM
Saturday: 9AM-12PM
These clinics will also be providing 1st, 2nd and 3rd doses for any CK residents aged 12+ and 1st and 2nd doses for those aged 5+.
Those seeking a 4th dose must book an appointment at www.GetYourShotCK.ca or by calling 519-351-1010. Walk-ins are welcome for 1st, 2nd and 3rd doses.
COVID-19 vaccines are also available at some local pharmacies.
