With temperatures expected to soar all week, Environment Canada has issued an extended heat alert for Chatham-Kent.

In high temperatures and humidity your body may not be able to cool properly, and that can lead to exhaustion or heat stroke.

Symptoms of heat related illness can include rapid breathing, dizziness or fainting, vomiting and extreme thirst.

If you or someone else has these symptoms get to a shaded or air conditioned area immediately, drink plenty of fluids and rest.

Family and friends should check on those people who are vulnerable.

Other tips include:

Avoid strenuous activities between 10 am and 4 pm.

Wear light, loose fitting clothing.

Always wear sunscreen.

Avoid using your oven if possible.

A fan may not be enough to keep you cool.

Keep curtains closed during the day to keep the sun out.
