Extreme Cold Warning in Effect

Frigid temperatures continue to blanket the region with an extreme cold warning in place through to Saturday morning.

The Environment Canada statement calls for bitterly cold temperatures and wind chill values near -30 Celsius or lower, which could pose greater risks to young children, older adults, those with chronic illnesses, those working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

Cold related symptoms include shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

Individuals lacking shelter, water, or food are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of extreme cold. Anyone experiencing homelessness should call the Homeless Response Line at 519-354-6628 (24/7) for support.

Remember not to leave pets outside for long, as they are also at risk from overexposure to extreme cold temperatures.
