The Salvation Army and Outreach for Hunger are benefiting from Food Freedom Day.
The Kent Federation of Agriculture has raised thousands of dollars’ worth of food from local farmers and farm organizations, including fresh produce, beef, and pork.
Director of the KFA Mary Anne Udvari says Food Freedom Day shows us how lucky we are.
“We’re very fortunate here in Canada that we have very nutritious choices,” Udvari says. “We emphases and recognize the important role that Canadian farmers play in feeding our nation.”
Food Freedom Day, celebrated on February 8th this year, marks the point in the year where the average Canadian has earned enough money to cover the year’s food costs.
On average, Canadians spend about 10% of their income on groceries.
