The inventor of Hawaiian pizza and former Chatham resident has passed away.
Sam Panopoulos passed away in London on Thursday.
Born in Greece, Panopoulos emigrated to Canada in 1954.
The pineapple and ham combination came in 1962 when Panopoulos and his brothers, who owned the Satellite Restaurant in Chatham, started experimenting with toppings.
Panopoulos sold the Satellite in 1980 and moved to London.
He was 83.
