Federal Conservative Party Leader Andrew Scheer spoke to a packed house of party faithfuls at Aristo’s Banquet Hall in Chatham this morning.
He says with Dave Van Kesteren leaving at the end of this term, they’re looking for a candidate with similar goals and values.
“A big part of winning the next election is holding onto what we have. We have great Members of Parliament – Dave has had a wonderful career and we’ve been colleagues for over a decade, so we’re going to miss him. We want to make sure that the next candidate for this [area] carries on that hard work ethic that he’s brought to caucus, and his strong voice for the area,” says Scheer.
Scheer says they’re looking for potential candidates.
“We’re casting a wide net, we’re inviting anyone who believes in our conservative principles who would like to embark on the career of pubic service who has that strong reputation here at home. We’re meeting with potential candidates all over the country, specifically areas like this”, Scheer says.
Issues of trade and federal spending were also discussed at the lunchtime event.
