Chatham-Kent is looking for public input on a proposed swim-only area at Erieau Beach.

The municipality has launched an online survey to garner feedback from local residents about the swimming area that would separate swimmers from watercraft.

A swim-only area is a clearly marked area using buoys, with or without a connecting rope. Watercraft, including windsurfing equipment and paddle boards, would not be permitted in this area.

The municipality said comments can include overall support or opposition, as well as the size of the proposed swim area, and the impact it would have on the public’s use of the beach.

This project is expected to be included for consideration during the 2024-2027 budget deliberations in the fall of 2023. If approved, the swim-only area could be implemented as early as the summer of 2024.

Feedback can be submitted until July 20 through the Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent website by clicking here.
