The Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse in Ottawa says users of fentanyl have little understanding of how poisonous the drug is. Dave Baker with crime stoppers knows firsthand about the rise of the use of the drug here in Chatham Kent and it’s effects. He says still the best weapon in the war on drugs and fentanyl is education.
“The way the patches are made, it’s a crap shoot,” says Baker. “They don’t know whether they’re going to get a full amount of the drug or a just a percentage. The risk factor is just too high to play Russian roulette with your life.”
Chatham Kent has seen 2 deaths related to Fentanyl in the last year.
