Festive Ride Campaign Underway

Local authorities want to make sure everyone gets home safety this holiday season.

The annual Festive RIDE campaign is underway.

OPP Inspector Ross Stuart, Acting West Region Traffic and Marine Manager, says 27 people have been killed on Western Region roads this year in collisions where alcohol or drugs were a factor.

“That’s 27 people who won’t be joining their friends and family for holiday parties, they won’t be there on Christmas morning, and they won’t be there to sit around the dinner table and share stories,” Stuart says. “That’s 27 lives that have ended, and the lives of the loved ones and friends that they have have been changed forever.”

Stuart says another 158 people were injured in collisions involving alcohol or drugs.

Authorities are not only urging everyone to drive sober, but also call police if they suspect someone may be getting behind the wheel while under the influence.

Officers will be conducting RIDE check points watching for drivers who are under the influence or impaired now through January 2nd.
