A new television film production is making its way to Chatham-Kent this weekend to explore the folklore and ghost stories of the local region.
A Windsor-based production crew will begin filming in Chatham on Saturday at 52 Adelaide St. N for their upcoming four-episode television program, Strange Tales of the South Shore.
“This weekend, Saturday is kind of an oddball shoot because the story that we’ve created takes place over Christmas Eve, so we need to make use of the snow while it’s still here,” said Director and Producer Ken Amlin.
Each episode of the show will bring to life eerie and mysterious urban legends, including a pair of local tales — the Adelaide Nun and The Baldoon Mystery. The other episodes will feature Amherstburg’s Texas Road and the Magician of Boblo Island.
“We’re not out to prove or disprove whether these stories are real or false, we just [intend] to share the stories,” said Amlin. “We’re looking to really celebrate the region and put it in a good spotlight.”
Amlin said filming will take place until the end of June, with the complete television program set to premiere on October 1 on Bell Fibe TV1.
The production team is also looking to connect with Chatham-Kent residents who have personal stories or knowledge of Jessie the Adelaide Nun or The Baldoon Mystery
“We’re looking for people who know about [the stories], maybe they have their own experiences or they grew up hearing these ghost stories who are willing to share that experience or that story with us. We want their voices on camera as part documentary for these episodes,” said Amlin.
Community members interested in sharing their stories are encouraged to contact the production team by email at [email protected].
