The fire ban in Chatham-Kent has been lifted. The ban was put in place last week due to hot, dry conditions in the region.
But, C-K Fire Chief Bob Crawford says cooler, most moist air has allowed fire restrictions to be eased.
“We also closely monitor the Ministry of Natural Resources, they provide a map to municipalities that gives you a sense of relative risk” Crawford says. “Right now that level of concern has been reduced, and certainly the recent rain and forecast of more rain for the next week ahead bodes well for our concerns over fire safety.”
However, Crawford says, despite the ban being lifted, residents must still use caution around fire and comply with the municipal Open-Burn by-law.
