Police are investigating after a fire was intentionally set in downtown Wallaceburg.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from a James Street business at around 2:15 a.m. on Monday.

When fire crews arrived, heavy smoke could be seen coming out of True North Cannabis, however, the fire affected at least two other businesses — Chelyn’s Family Diner and Myers Insurance.

Crews from Station 3 Wallaceburg, Station 2 Chatham, and Wallaceburg volunteers remained on-site through the early morning hours.

No injuries have been reported and a damage estimate has not been provided.

Following an investigation, police have determined that the fire was the result of arson and members of the Major Crime Section are actively investigating.
