Chatham-Kent firefighters will soon benefit from a grant program that supports community-led initiatives across Ontario.
Hydro One has announced that Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue is one of 25 charitable organizations, Indigenous communities, and municipalities that will receive a grant of $25,000 from the Energizing Life Community Fund.
The funds will be used to rebuild the fire department’s central command unit, which are specially designed vehicles that are sent to the scene of larger-scale or prolonged incidents.
Fire officials said they will be repurposing an existing fire truck for the command unit.
β[While] all of our fire trucks are engaged in protecting the community, the command unit is the only truck engaged to protect our firefighters and partners,β said Fire Chief Chris Case in a news release. βThe new incident command unit will be used across CK [to] support all of our 19 fire stations.β
This is the third year in a row that the Energizing Life Community Fund will support community-led initiatives that promote physical, emotional, and psychological safety and well-being for Ontarians.
