Fire officials are reassuring local residents that there is no danger to the public following Saturday’s massive fire near downtown Chatham.
Fire fighters have been going door to door in the area around Thames Street following the blaze at Church’s Army and Outdoor Military Surplus that forced a shelter-in-place order.
A handful of families were also evacuated for safety reasons because of potentially toxic smoke from the fire.
Assistant Chief Chris Case says the blaze highlights the importance of having working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in place.
