A firefighter is recovering after helping battle a blaze in Chatham over the weekend.
Crews from Stations #1 and #2 were called to a Colborne Street home early Sunday morning after reports of a couch on fire. When they arrived, the blaze had spread to the porch.
Firefighters went into the building to search for anyone inside and to put out the flames. Officials say it spread quickly and firefighters were forced to exit the building.
In the meantime, police say they found the residents outside, having already escaped from the home.
They also say a firefighter sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital and treated.
While the cause of the fire is unknown, Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services say the damages are around $100,000.
