One firefighter is recovering after being hurt battling a blaze on Walpole Island First Nation, which is now being investigated by police.
Officials say crews were called out for a structure fire on Chiefs Road North last night. As firefighters were tackling the flames, a loud explosion went off, sending one firefighter to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Two residents were rescued from the home before crews arrived and were also taken to hospital, although their conditions have not been released at this point.
The fire is currently being treated as suspicious. The Ontario Provincial Police is continuing to investigate with the assistance of Walpole Island First Nation Police, in conjunction with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office.
