Fire Forces Evacuation Of Chatham Retirement Home

An investigation is ongoing after a fire broke out on the roof of a Chatham retirement home.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services said firefighters responded to the blaze at The Maples Retirement Living on Bloomfield Road at around 11:10 p.m. on Wednesday.

Fire crews assisted staff in evacuating the building and then utilized a ladder to reach the roof and extinguish a small fire.

No residents were displaced and there were no injuries reported.

The scene was eventually turned over to the Chatham-Kent Police Service. Police officials said the matter remains under investigation and no further information is being released at this time.

The cause of the fire and a damage estimate are currently unknown.
