Firefighters are ready to come to your home to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, free of charge. All you have to do is ask.
Public Educator Whitney Burke says the ‘Chatham-Kent Homes, Informed Ready and Protected’ (CHIRP) program is all about education.
“Traditionally we go door to door knocking on the spot and asking residents if we can come in to check their homes,” says Burke. “This year we’re trying a different approach where we’re putting the responsibility back on the homeowners to contact us, just to set up a convenient time to come in and check their alarm. ”
Burke adds it’s not about enforcement. No tickets or fines or work orders will be handed out.
