No injuries have been reported after a tent went up in flames at a homeless encampment in Chatham.
Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue said firefighters from Stations 1 and 2 responded to the blaze on Thames Street at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Within minutes of arriving at the scene, firefighters quickly removed several propane tanks from the area and extinguished the flames.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
According to fire officials, efforts have been made by multiple community partners to reduce the presence of combustibles in the encampment area.
The fire department, along with the Chatham-Kent Police Service and CK Housing Services, also attended the encampment a few weeks ago to ensure there was adequate space between the tents.
