A fire at a Chatham automotive parts plant has resulted in around $15,000 in damages.
Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue said on Sunday shortly before 4 p.m., fire crews responded to an oil fire in a stack vent on the roof of Meritor Suspension Systems Company (MSSC), located at 201 Park Ave. E.
Firefighters battled the blaze in extreme heat using dry chemical extinguishers to douse the flames, which had originated from on top of a furnace.
Chatham-Kent EMS also responded to the scene to assist firefighters by checking vitals and ensuring they did not suffer any ill effects from the heat.
Firefighters remained at the scene until temperatures decreased in the stack.
No injuries were reported.
