A private fireworks display is getting the blame for a barn fire in Central Elgin.

Emergency crews responded to the Southdale Line property shortly after 11 o’clock Sunday night.

Investigators say the owners were holding a celebration including fireworks when one of the explosives tipped over by accident, launching into a nearby haybarn and set it ablaze.

No injuries were reported.

Damage has been estimate at roughly $1-million in buildings, farm implements, and other equipment.

No charges have been laid, however Elgin County OPP is reminding the public to check with their municipality to make sure they are abiding by local bylaws when using consumer fireworks.
