C-K Public Health is reporting the first COVID-19 death in Chatham-Kent.
A woman in her 80s has passed away in hospital. The patient was the second confirmed local case of COVID-19 and has been in hospital at CKHA since March 16th.
Transmission of her case was linked to travel to the U.S.
Chatham-Kent’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David Colby passed along his condolences and a stark reminder for continual community co-operation.
“We are very saddened by this news and are offering our sincere condolences to the family and those close to the individual” said Dr. Colby. ““Tragically, this news further highlights just how important it is for us to work together as a community to stop the spread of COVID-19. Now is the time to think about protecting yourself, but also protecting those around you.”
Two new cases of COVID-19 have also been confirmed in C-K.
A man in his 70s is in self-isolation. His transmission is also linked to travel to the U.S.
A woman in her 60s is hospitalized at CKHA with an unknown and pending link to transmission.
Chatham-Kent now has confirmed 12 cases of the coronavirus.
Three additional cases are now listed as resolved, making four of C-K’s total 12 cases resolved.
