Fish For Free This Family Day Weekend

Local residents who don’t mind the cold weather may be getting out their rods and reels this Family Day weekend.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry will be waiving the need for fishing licenses from Saturday through Monday.

However, residents taking part in the free fishing period will need to carry federal or provincial identification showing their name and date of birth. All conservation license catch limits, size limits, sanctuaries and other regulations will also still apply.

For those considering going onto the ice to fish, the ministry is encouraging everyone to prioritize safety by checking ice conditions with local operators or anglers. Let someone know your fishing plans and wear proper gear for safety and comfort.
