Five local residents are facing trafficking charges following an early morning drug bust in Chatham.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers with the Intelligence Unit and Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at a home on St. Clair Street at around 5:20 a.m. on Wednesday, as part of an ongoing fentanyl trafficking investigation.

During a search of the home, officers seized around 86.5 grams of suspected fentanyl with a street value of $8,650. Police also seized measuring cups and a blender containing suspected fentanyl, a rifle-style BB gun, digital scales, packaging materials, and cell phones.

Three men, aged 35, 40, and 44, and two women, aged 29 and 35, were also located and arrested inside the home. All five suspects have each been charged with possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking. The 35-year-old woman is also charged with two counts of failing to comply with probation.

The accused have since been released from custody with future court dates.
