Chatham-Kent’s hospital is laying off several members of its management team.
The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) announced on Tuesday that it has eliminated eight management positions across the organization as part of a “corporate structure review,” resulting in five layoffs.
The following management roles have been eliminated:
- Vice President, Transformation
- Vice President, Mental Health & Addictions
- Director, Professional Practice & Organizational Development
Manager role in support services - Manager role in clinical operations
- Supervisor role in community operations
- Supervisor, Medical Device Reprocessing Department
- Spiritual Care Provider
The existing Vice President, Clinical Programs and Operations is expected to take over the duties for the Vice-President, Mental Health and Addictions position. Spiritual care services will also continue to be offered at the hospital through partnerships with local clergy and volunteers.
CKHA officials said the decision to cut the positions took into account the hospital’s new strategic plan and “current financial challenges.” The move is expected to save the organization around $1 million.
“These decisions reflect the organization’s commitment to ensuring that CKHA remains strong, sustainable, and focused on patient care,” the hospital said in a news release. “CKHA wishes to acknowledge the contributions of those impacted by these changes and reaffirms its commitment to supporting staff, patients, and families through this transition.”
The health alliance reportedly ended the 2024/2025 fiscal year with a $13.5 million deficit. The current budgeted deficit for 2025/2026 is $5 million.
The hospital said no further management layoffs are expected as a result of the corporate structure review.
